1. Does your website look ‘aged’?
One of the first things you should look at, is whether your website looks modern and have updated designs relatively comparable to those in your industry. For example, does your website look like it was built by free online tools? While spinning gifs might be fashionable in the 90s, let’s just say that some design elements are better left out in this day and age. Look at the colour use, fonts, and text. Are the colours in line with your branding? It might also be worthwhile considering updating your logo at the same time.
2. Knock Knock… Is anyone visiting your website?
Is your website one of those that exists in cyberspace ‘just because’? Do you know if anyone is visiting it? What is the purpose of your website? If you haven’t used Google Analytics, now it’s time to start. If you don’t know your audience and demographics, then your website is not optimised to serve your customers and give them what they are looking for. Your website should be tailored to your customers experience with your brand online — focus on the content that brings value, rather than just product and service information.
3. You already spent good money building your website.
Now you’re thinking, I’ve already spent a good amount of money when my business started (X number of years ago), I don’t need to spend any more money on it!
A website is like your car, you need to service it regularly so it can serve you best. Does it drive traffic to your business? Sometimes it needs parts changed or adjusted, so that it can run smoothly. Does your website take a long time to load? Does it appear high on SEO rankings? Is it mobile responsive?
It is common for businesses to update their websites every several years, so don’t neglect it even though you’ve spend a good start up amount on the website. A car without maintenance and updates will soon be useless to you, just like a website which doesn’t bring you any business.
